Apollo 18 (2011) – MOVIE REVIEW – Moon Hoax, Secret Missions, NASA Footage & More

There is a lot of controversy surrounding the moon and our voyages there. In fact, there is a large amount of people, up to 20% of the United States (according to some sources) that believe that we hoaxed the moon landing. There are others that believe that we landed on the moon and encountered aliens and/or structures left there by aliens. Then there are those that believe the story is as advertised…went to the moon and came back without anything out of the ordinary occurring, but who wants to listen to them?

So we have the popular topic of the moon mixed with the “lost footage” angle that made THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT so cool. In this, we have a secret mission to the moon with Captain Ben Anderson (Warren Christie), Lt. John Grey (Ryan Robbins), and Commander Nate Walker (Lloyd Owen), going to the moon. All three are very excited about the journey.

On the moon, things seem normal, but the crew begins to sense that there is something watching them. As they explore, they come across something shocking. They find a Russian spacecraft sitting on the moon. What the hell is going on! The next discovery is even more shocking. A dead Russian astronaut is found in a crater and when the spacecraft is explored, they find a lot of blood…something very bad happened.

Walker and Anderson are starting to see a government conspiracy and realize that they were sent there as “guinea pigs” and they are not going to be brought back. Walker encounters the alien presence and gets infected, leaving Anderson alone and looking to escape. Grey is ready to pick him up.

Anderson has to get to the Russian spacecraft and rendezvous with Grey, but the guys at NASA inform him that he must stay on the moon and die, but they will tell his child that he died a hero. Against their plan, he gets the Russian craft airborne and tries to connect with Grey but that’s when the bad stuff really starts happening.

APOLLO 18 is a really fun movie. I enjoy these “lost footage” films especially when they are done well and this one certainly is. It does a great job of starting slowly and gradually building steam becoming a really interesting flick. I highly recommend it!
