Looking for something to relax your mind and spirit? This DVD/BluRay/CD combo may be the answer. It’s an hour long trip through space set to ethereal music bound to clear out your cluttered brain. If you are into yoga, meditation or just want an aid to help you relax “Amazing Space” is a tool to help you do just that.
The pictures are beyond amazing and taken from the Hubble Telescope. At first I thought many of these pictures were fake but upon further investigation, by watching the included interviews, I realized that they were indeed real. They took the pictures and somehow created layers so that you feel you are moving through space and that is pretty cool. The music goes perfectly with the pictures.
The program starts out on Earth showing scenes of industry and busy streets then moves upwards as we follow floating paper lanterns into the sky. As they gently rise the pictures dissolve into galaxies and nebulas far out into space. The images are colorful, detailed and mesmerizing. It’s hard to believe that these are actual photographs taken from the Hubble Telescope. It makes you realize how tiny Earth really is.
The music is all original and composed by Kristen Hoffman. Elan Alexenburg edited the project and Ralph Stevens produced it. This team of three folks really pulled off an interesting project when they joined forces to create “Amazing Space”.
You can enjoy watching the DVD or BluRay, but if you have the player, I highly recommend the BluRay so that you really get to enjoy the detail of the images. If you are in your car or just not near a TV you can still relax to the music using the included CD version. Lots of choices here. Relax and take a quick trip out into the cosmos. It will help you be more relaxed as you travel in daily life on our good ole’ planet Earth. I’ve watched this several times and the program has relaxed me each time. I will keep it handy for the next time I need a brain massage.
In the end credits they also bring up the fact that many people are unable to enjoy nighttime views due to light pollution and this is sad. There are ways that you and I can help control light pollution such as pointing lighting at the ground and only using lights when and where we need them. Simple things can help make the night sky more enjoyable for all.
