Frightpix launches “Lloyd Kaufman Presents”

The free horror streaming service launches curated series in time for Halloween

NEW YORK, October 27th, 2015 /PRNewswire/ In time for Halloween, Frightpix, the free horror streaming app, launches a selection of films presented by legendary filmmaker Lloyd Kaufman, president of Troma Entertainment and creator of The Toxic Avenger. The selection titled “Lloyd Kaufman Presents” comprises twenty of Kaufman’s favorite horror films available for free streaming on Frightpix on Roku, Xbox 360, mobile devices and the web.

Troma Entertainment is the oldest independent movie studio in the world and discovered such talents as Trey Parker, James Gunn, and Vincen D’Onofrio, among others. Kaufman has directed numerous cult horror films including The Toxic Avenger, Class of Nuke ‘Em High, and most recently, Return to Nuke ‘Em High Vol. 1 & 2. Kaufman is famous for his socially critical, gory spin on the horror genre. His films are rich with political commentary and reflections on the entertainment industry.

The curated series includes five films by Troma Entertainment, as well as fifteen more of Kaufman’s favorite horror films. Each of the movies is prefaced by a personal video introduction given by Kaufman and “Toxie,” the director’s most famous monster.

“We are extremely happy to provide a platform for Lloyd to introduce his personal favorite Frightpix films,” says David Fannon, Executive Vice President at Frightpix. “He brings a very critical, unique perspective to the horror genre. With his strong roots in independent cinema and gore horror, Lloyd is a perfect fit for Frighpix.”

“Frightpix has a lot of quality, unconventional horror films,” says Kaufman. “This selection of titles ranges from very serious, controversial films such as The Woman to obscure titles like Snow Shark to campy classics including Troma’s Class of Nuke ‘Em High. I am thrilled about how the genre shaped out.”

The genre will also have a limited run on Popcornflix, the free movie and TV streaming app affiliated with Frightpix. Popcornflix offers movies and TV for free on Roku, Sony PlayStation PS3 and PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Amazon Fire TV, smart TVs, mobile devices and the web.
