Former pro-boxer, Mario Oscar Melo, known mostly for his fight with former light heavyweight and heavyweight champion, Michael Moorer, has died in a fluke accident during a croissant eating competition in Argentina when he choked on the dough and nobody was able to save him as he choked to death.
It was all on live TV as he began to struggle with the pastry and as several men ran up to help him but were unable to dislodge the croissant. Melo was 56 at the time and ended his career with a record of 21-9 as a boxer. The incident is being researched and apparently there was no qualified medics on site, which would have been the difference between life and death.
