It Happened at the Nightmare Inn (1973) – HORROR MOVIE REVIEW

There’s a hotel in Spain that is ran by two overly religious sisters that tend to judge their guests very harshly. In fact, they are killing them off one by one for sinning against their lord. Marta (Aurora Bautista) and Veronica (Esperanza Roy) are creepy and mysterious and immediately draw the suspicion of Laura (Judy Geeson), one of their guests.

This movie is very slow moving at first, but the pace picks up and you start wondering what’s going to happen next. A woman showed up with a baby and they kept talking about it. I began thinking that they must be Satanists and some of the artwork concerning this movie sort of leans that way, but sadly, no. I’ve seen so many good 1970’s cult movies and was hoping for another…no such luck.

Laura begins suspecting that they are killing guests and begins investigating. When she gets too close, she comes face to face with the evil sisters and their wrath, leading to a mediocre conclusion.

IT HAPPENED AT THE NIGHTMARE INN is a decent movie, but I think that I expected too much from it. The plot was very simple and straight forward. There were no twists and turns. It was just a movie about two killer sisters, murdering under the radar and eventually being found out. It had its creepy moments and the atmosphere overall wasn’t bad, but this is very forgettable. There is nothing that will shock the horror fan and there just isn’t too much to it. I recommend it, but don’t expect anything great.

Rating: 5/10 – Simple mediocrity
