DEAD RELIGION is a book by David Beers and I found it to be very original and well written. Beers paints the picture very well, using descriptions that may have you cringe at times. He pulls no punches as he tells the story of an FBI agent and a terrorist that is more than meets the eye.
Alex Valdez, a suspected terrorist, has terrible visions and a past of mystery that involve a being that is using him as a tool to get his needed blood sacrifice. Valdez’s parents explained to their son that their need to move was all based on a God that was basically chasing them and as the story develops, things get darker and darker for Valdez and those that come into contact with him.
The battle becomes a do or die for Valdez. He must find a way to conquer this demon and FBI Agent Allison must do what he can to help and to not fall victim to the surrounding madness, leading to a very exciting conclusion.
David Beers did some things very well with DEAD RELIGION. The idea of tying in the topic of terrorism was really interesting and helps bring the reader right into the story. When Allison is dispatched, the thought is that this will be a good guy versus bad guy story, but it’s far more complex. It is good guy vs. good guy with a demon hanging over his head.
I would definitely recommend DEAD RELIGION. Beers knows how to tell a story and how to throw the viewer a curveball from time to time.
