Concrete Blondes (2012) – PULP FICTION – LIKE MOVIE REVIEW

“Pulp Fiction” fans may enjoy “Concrete Blonds” but then again maybe not. The movie is shot in the same style as the classic action film “Pulp Fiction” and is loaded with blood and gory fight scenes. The story is also non-linear. It bounces around in time like “Pulp Fiction” does. Unfortunately that is where the similarities end. I say unfortunately because it copies the style so closely that I had high hope at first but the story soon fell apart.

Two sexy roommates, thinking they are going to a rave party, walk into the middle of a shootout in an abandoned warehouse by mistake. That scene is pretty funny, by the way, and one of the most entertaining moments in the film. In the end all the bad guys end up dead and the girls steal a large bag of money that is sitting in the middle of the room. They bring it back to their apartment where sexy roommate number three is. They hatch a plan to stash the money in a storage locker till things cool down and decide to only spend some of the money if everyone agrees. As things go no one can trust the other and all hell breaks loose. Now the criminals are looking for their cash and the girls have left a pretty clear trail of evidence leading directly to them.

Will they survive these bloodthirsty hoodlums? Will they get to keep any of the money? Personally I lost interest and hoped the bad guys would catch the sexy threesome and get their money back so the movie would end. I lost track of where the story was with the bouncing around in time. It just wasn’t done well enough to understand but I do admire the filmmakers for trying. Pretty good story though. It had quite a bit of lesbian sexual content which did not drive the story forward but I guess some people can overlook that little fact. I am a big fan of a good story telling so I get bored very easily with content that is irrelevant to forward motion in the story.

In the end I cannot recommend “Concrete Blondes”. It’s just not that great of a movie, but if you are merely interested in seeing some bloody fight action, sexy chicks with automatic weapons and a little bit of lesbian bump and grind then perhaps you should give it a chance. Hmm…now that I say that, maybe I should give it another chance.

Rating: 4/10 – “Blondes have more gun”
