I have been very impressed with the work of producers of Kayfabe Commentaries, which are basic shoot interviews with the stars of the WWE, WCW, TNA and all other wrestling federations, past and present. After watching “BREAKING KAYFABE WITH SEAN WALTMAN,” their newest installment, I was amazed by the jump in production value and great interviewing skills of Sean Oliver.
Sean Waltman began in the WWE as “1-2-3 Kid” or “Kamikaze Kid,” making waves early as a 20 year old or so, beating the highly regarded “Razor Ramon” (Scott Hall). It was the start of his successful wrestling run. He would become part of the clique, with associations with Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Shawn Michaels, and Triple H. Waltman would be part of the N.W.O in its infancy, move to become a big part of Degeneration X and have memorable bouts with just about everyone that he stepped into the ring with. He gave his all in the ring, but like many wrestlers, he would fall victim to the world of drugs and the elements that the lifestyle brings in.
Waltman had a high profile and destructive relationship with Chyna, leading to an infamous adult movie and rape allegations. The drug abuse and deep depression would lead to a suicide attempt. His life was no longer being covered by the various wrestling publications. He was now TMZ’s baby and it really had an impact on his family and everything else.
Sean Oliver does an amazing job in this one on one interview with Waltman, and you can’t help but to like the former WWE/WCW star. He is brutally honest about everything, including childhood sexual abuse, drug usage, the Chyna rape allegations and more. I have seen many of the Kayfabe Commentaries, but this one is, by far, the best and most compelling. A mixture of great questions and sincere answers brings you right into the underbelly of pro wrestling.
You find yourself as the viewer, cheering for Waltman…hoping that he gets his life together and not for pro wrestling, but for his family. What this interview has accomplished is to bring you Waltman like never before and you soon will not care so much about the world of wrestling but for him as a person. All of the negative press concerning him is brought into perspective and you fully understand his addiction.
BREAKING KAYFABE WITH SEAN WALTMAN is not a must see. It’s a must own. If you are a wrestling fan and lived through the N.W.O and Degeneration X era, then you will really enjoy this. If you followed the TMZ headlines and Chyna’s allegations against Waltman, you may get a different perspective after watching this. I tip my hat to Oliver for not only pushing the production value, but for asking the tough questions and bringing forth a side of Waltman that we have never seen. What a GREAT interview this is. I highly recommend it.
