MVD Entertainment Group is releasing a classic film “THE POINT” on its 50th anniversary, featuring stories and songs by Harry Nilsson, on Blu-ray.  An animated film narrated by Ringo Starr, THE POINT is a great watch for people of all ages and if you’re in your forties like me, it brings a total nostalgic feeling.  It was shown on ABC in 1971 and, unfortunately, we don’t see the networks putting on programs like this anymore.

THE POINT concerns an adventure by Oblio, a young child that is different from his entire community.  He is the only one without a point on their head and it leads to banishment from the community.  He travels with his dog, Arrow, and meets a lot of interesting creatures along the way.

The music throughout the film set the tone and it complements the animation and vice versa.  Like most classic animated films and shows, there is a message in THE POINT about not judging on appearance and acceptance.

I highly recommend THE POINT and MVD Entertainment Group does a tremendous job on the presentation and also has some very interesting bonus features:

New 2K High Definition transfer from 16mm Film Elements presented in its original 1.37:1 aspect ratio.

5.1 Dolby Digital Surround & 2.0 Dolby Digital Stereo with Optional English Subtitles

NEW! “The Kid’s Got a Point”: An Interview with Mike Lookinland (HD, 17:13)

NEW! “That Old Guy Wrote The Point”: A Conversation with Screenwriter Norm Lenzer (HD, 15:01)

NEW! “Everybody’s Got a Point: Kiefo Nilsson and Bobby Halvorson on Adapting the Point” (HD, 15:50)

NEW! “Nilsson on Screen”: Biographer Alyn Shipton and Friends on Harry Nilsson’s Film Projects & Appearances (HD, 1:01:13)

The Making of The Point: Four-part featurette including: “Who Is Harry Nilsson?”, “Pitching The Point”, “Making The Point” and “Legacy of the Point” (SD, 26:40)

Collectible Mini-Poster

So, look for THE POINT on Blu-ray.  It’s such an interesting and classic film and if you’re old enough to remember the time when they showed flicks like this, you’ll really enjoy it.
