Braling (James Coco) is not living a satisfying life. His wife will not give him a moment’s peace. He goes to work in a busy office setting and signs onto his computer. Immediately, something pops up listing private information about him under the banner of “Marionettes, Inc.” He freaks out, but tries to ignore it. Later, when he deals with some customers, he logs on and once again, the private information pops up. He doesn’t know what to do, but is very rattled.
He goes to the bar with his buddy and asks for guidance. After the talk, Braling goes to the corporate office of Marionettes, Inc. It was futuristic in a very 80’s way, and after a few long hallways, Braling meets up with Fantoccini played by the great Leslie Nielsen. I think Nielsen based his character on the name, figuring he was Italian and used a terrible accent, almost exactly like the one that he used in REPOSSESSED. It was very amusing.
After a discussion about his unfulfilled life, Fantoccini shows him something shocking. Sitting in a room is an apparent clone of Braling. A deal is proposed. For the money he has in his savings, he can have the clone and use him to take his place with his wife and at work so that Braling can have a better life. After some serious thought, he accepts and life becomes great. He is going out every night and having a good time but things begin to go wrong.
The clone is starting to like his life and it becomes a battle between Braling and fake Braling, with a predictable outcome. This one reminded me of THE STEPFORD WIVES and a little of the tale in the anthology BODY BAGS with Stacy Keach. Overall, it’s pretty interesting and worth a watch. I recommend it.
