THE GILDED AGE: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON has just been released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, bringing all 9 episodes and some cool bonus material in the release.

First, this series knocks it out of the park with the costumes and set design.  This is just beautiful to look at and you really feel like you are stepping back in time.  It’s a period piece done right and is really interesting as the old money collides with the young money.  The story is told really well and you see just how the elite worked and how difficult it is to land in such a group even when you come into money.

The characters are really well written and they present conflict very well.  I especially liked George Russell, a railroad tycoon with an edge.  The character tended to steal every scene with the bravado and ambition.

As the episodes pass by, the ties to each other becomes more obvious.  It was some really intelligent writing and storytelling to create something subtle at times only to have it more obvious as the episodes go on.  I really liked how this series played out and how the story was told.
