Film Movement (www.filmmovement.com), the New York-based film distribution company, announces that THE DARK VALLEY premieres On Demand on all cable and digital platforms on November 4, alongside three additional titles available exclusively On Demand this month. French character study NIGHTS WITH THEODORE; CAM GIRL, a sexy Italian drama, and Turkish romantic comedy LOVE ME, all premiere On Demand throughout November.
Austria’s official Oscars® submission for Best Foreign Language Film, THE DARK VALLEY follows a lone rider (Sam Riley, Maleficent, Control and the forthcoming Price and Prejudice and Zombies) who arrives in a small high-mountain village; nobody knows where he’s from and nobody wants him there. Greider introduces himself as a photographer from America, and the town’s patriarch, Old Brenner, provides him with shelter for the hard winter ahead. In the village, cut off by snowfall with barely a ray of sunlight reaching the valley, a tragic accident leads to the death of one of Brenner’s beloved sons. When another son is mysteriously killed, it’s clear this is no coincidence: the time has come for Brenner’s family to pay, and Greider plans to settle a score long forgotten by everyone but him.
THE DARK VALLEY, noted for its “brooding atmosphere of suspicion and menace” by The Playlist and “a revenge Western that is all American!” by IonCinema, premieres on all major cable and digital VOD providers on November 4.
Also available on video-on-demand November 4 is NIGHTS WITH THEODORE, French new wave director Sebastien Betbeder’s debut feature about a chance encounter at a party that leads to beguiling, intimate nights in a local park.
November 25 sees two additional films available On Demand. CAM GIRL is the Italian drama about a woman desperate to make a living after losing her job who starts a sexy webcam service with her friends. The highly successful endeavor quickly descends into resentment and dangerous excess. Turkish rom-com LOVE ME follows a young man on his bachelor party weekend in advance of an arranged marriage; when he meets an alluring escort, the two see in each other a way to escape their romantic fates.
Film Movement’s holdover on demand programming includes 1,000 TIMES GOOD NIGHT, starring Oscar®-winner Juliette Binoche; A LIFE IN DIRTY MOVIES, a documentary about the life and career of sexploitation filmmaker Joe Sarno; and LINES OF WELLINGTON, the 19th-century wartime epic by Valeria Sarmiento, who finished the film when her filmmaker husband Raul Ruiz died before he could do so. CANNIBAL, the story of a meticulous tailor with a dark secret; SALVO, the debut Italian feature about a mafia hitman who finds salvation in a young blind girl; and TO KILL A MAN, Chile’s Best Foreign Language Oscars® submission, also continue their on demand runs.
