The Butterfly Effect 2 (2006) – HORROR MOVIE REVIEW

Watching this follow up to the 2004 THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT, it immediately felt like a FINAL DESTINATION movie. Both series have similar stories, but the FD movies had this sort of feel to them…even the bad ones. This film sort of felt like one of those flicks right from jump.

Nick (Eric Lively), his girlfriend, Julie (Erica Durance), his best friend Trevor (Dustin Milligan) and his girlfriend Amanda (Gina Holden) are all on vacation and are very happy. Nick and Trevor have the world ahead of them and the girls are very pleased with their men. What a happy beginning.

As they are having fun, Nick gets called into work and on the way there, they have a tire blow out and then get struck by a tractor/trailer. Three of them die and Nick has to move on with his life and pick up the pieces. For one year, Nick is miserable, but when he looks at an old picture, he is able to go back in time and change things. Julie is back in his life and so are Trevor and Amanda and it should have been left at that.

Trevor and Nick work for the same agency and when Trevor gets fired, Nick quits and that puts Julie into nag mode. To fix her ass and fix his boss’s ass, he goes back in time and changes a few things, awakening as the VP of the company but he is now broken up with Julie and Trevor is having his life threatened by one of the business partners that invested into the company. He should have just stayed where he was, dealt with the nagging and got a new job. In the original, Ashton Kutcher’s character was doing things for the right reasons…but not Nick. No, Nick is rather selfish.

Nick attempts to settle matters with the thugs that Trevor convinced to invest 250 thousand dollars, but that ends up with a dead friend and a blow job. Nick awakens in bed and lifts the covers and it’s a bald dude sucking his dick. I guess there are worse ways to wake up. Nick ends up tossing the bald dicksucker down the stairs and then has to pick up the pieces and get over the idea that some dude just sucked his dick while he was sleeping. That’s just wrong. You ask before you suck. Didn’t his mother ever teach him that? Fucking dicksucker.

The movie ends with Nick trying to do the right thing, but it doesn’t make much sense. Actually, this movie, overall, doesn’t make a great deal of sense. At times, the decisions that Nick makes have you scratching your head. At times, you wake up and find a bald guy blowing you under the blanket while you are sleeping.

THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT 2 is not a good film. It’s pretty empty and it trudges along trying to tie itself to the first, but not capturing the heart in it. Nick is not an incredibly endearing character and it is very difficult to connect with any of the characters. The best of the bunch was Dustin Milligan. Trevor was a very likable and believable character. The rest were good but they just didn’t have much to work with and couldn’t put it together.

I recommend this movie for those that are curious and/or want to see what a bald dicksucker under the blankets is all about.
