Teofimo Lopez, 11-0, 9 KO’s, made a statement and may have scored the knockout of the year with a quick first round knockout of Mason Menard, 34-4, 24 KO’s, in a lightweight showdown. Lopez came out of the corner at the opening bell and began hunting down the more experienced Menard, landing a right hand that stunned him immediately. Menard tried to get his footing and fight back but a right hand would send him crashing face-first to the floor. He was completely knocked out and it only took 44 seconds.
Lopez was voted prospect of the year and this supports it. He has huge power and timing and this fight was a step up in competition and he handled it as good as he could have.
