DARK POWER (1985) – DEMON/SUPERNATURAL HORROR Movie Review

By Chris Summerfield

The movie is based in the South/East USA…

John “Four Eagles” Cody (Robert Bushyhead) dies, a man who lived alone and was supposed to have carried out ancient magic, most of the locals thinking of him being eccentric. The house he lived in is believed to have been built on land where many long years ago, four evil Indian sorcerers were buried alive, members of the ancient, Toltec tribe. The four sorcerers vowing to return and feed upon the blood of the living, so the death of old, John Cody could only mean trouble for the party of young people that move in to the property…

Then the night of evil arrives and yes you guessed it, four demonic Indians rise from the ground, hell bent on murder, the young folks, Tammie (Cynthia Bailey), Beth (Anna Lane), and Suzan (Suzie Martin) along with the others who share the house must find a way of stopping the devilish, Indians, however as the casualties of the young mount, it is down to the, Ranger Girard (Lash La Rue) who arrives with his whip. Girard is known locally, as a famous ranger who hunts wild animals with nothing but a whip, never harming animals and yet controlling them… Ranger Girard, challenges the evil sorcerers with his whip, though this alone is not enough, so there must be other ways of fighting them before they are all killed… Could the four wood/metal type eagles, each attached to a type of blade stored within a room be a possible answer?

This movie portrays ignorance, not just in the form of the ancient magic that John Cody worshipped and used in protection against evil, but also ignorance that most of us have unfortunately seen and heard at some stage in our lives, being the ignorance towards the colour of people’s skin and also abuse towards, obese folks, okay it’s not good to hear these sort of topics within a movie and they could only but lower the taste, however perhaps the intention was to make us aware it still happens, and unfortunately even in these modern times…

So again it leaves me to rate this movie… There are no real surprises within this movie, as it is mostly predictable, but I did like the demonic Indian outfits the guys wore and at times there were funny…

Rating: 6/10
