16th Annual TromaDance Film Festival
Free Horror Streaming Service Teams up with Legendary Cult Horror
Studio Troma Entertainment to Celebrate Independent Filmmaking
Frightpix, the free horror streaming service, is the official sponsor of the 2015 TromaDance Film Festival. The event, which features screenings of original independent horror films, a panel discussion and an after party, is open to the public and will take place July 24-25 at Paper Box, a concert venue and art space in Brooklyn.
The TromaDance Film Festival is a celebration of independent horror films entirely open to the public that does not charge submission or entrance fees. Organizer Troma Entertainment, beloved by fans worldwide for their films that fuse slapstick comedy, gore and social commentary, is known for campy classics such as The Toxic Avenger, The Seduction of Dr. Fugazzi, Bigfoot, Class of Nuke Em’ High and Surf Nazis Must Die – all available for free streaming on Frightpix on Roku, Xbox 360, the web and mobile devices.
The festival will open with a screening of the Frightpix title The Beast of XMoor, a monster movie with an unexpected twist taking place in the moors of the English countryside. Other short films to be screened include Artichoke Piranha from the Prehistoric Abyss, Eye in Tuna Can and This Horror Most Unreal.
Frightpix representatives will be on hand during the festival and will raffle off Roku streaming devices and t-shirts to attendees. Frightpix’s Director of Marketing and Audience Development will take part in a panel discussion on branding in the digital landscape, providing insight on the role of streaming services in the development of independent film.
“We’re psyched to work with Frightpix to make independent horror films accessible to everyone,” said Lloyd Kaufman, co-founder of Troma Entertainment. “We are looking forward to getting together as filmmakers and fans alike to celebrate the experimental nature of the genre.”
“Troma is legendary for their campy classics and devoted cult following,” said David Fannon, Executive Vice President at Popcornflix and Frightpix. “Both Frightpix and TromaDance are all about providing free access to independent horror, so the sponsorship is a great fit and we look forward to seeing everyone at The Paper Box.”
