By Forris Day Jr.

I know there are many screenwriters out there in the following situation: You have finally finished writing your movie script. Months, perhaps even years have gone into telling your story. You’ve written, rewritten and perhaps even rewritten it again. You know it’s good, your parents knows it’s good and your friends know it’s good. But is it marketable? Sure, Mom, Dad and all your pals say your going to be the next big thing in screenwriting, but let’s face it, they are not the ones who really decide that. Well who does decide, and how can you get your newly polished script into the hands of people who may actually buy it? Short of breaking into some Hollywood executive’s office and stealing their Rolodex, you don’t really know. You can do lots and lots of research on the internet but where do you begin? So many agencies. Some take only comedies but you wrote a thriller! Can you send it unsolicited? Do they take features or just TV scripts? What number can you call with a question? UGGH! There has got to be a better way.

Relax, take a deep breath. There is a better way. It’s called “The Hollywood Screenwriting Directory.” I was able to check out the Fall 2012 version. This book is a godsend for any writer out there. OK…Let’s say you just finished your script and you really feel it’s ready for prime time, but you don’t know what to do next. Grab your copy of the book. Read over the first 22 pages. This is where they tell you all the steps involved from writing a query letter and how to do it, to proper formatting of your script and the easiest way to do it. (HINT: use scriptwriting software and it will be done for you). What, just 22 pages? That is because the remaining 118 pages is a list of all the companies, names, addresses, e-mail addresses, phone numbers, info on what type of scripts are accepted, and how they are accepted all wrapped up into a tidy package. It’s all there! No excuses now. You have a script, now go sell it. No more crying about not knowing where to send it. The Writers Store has done the work for you. This book is the result of over 30 years hard work gathering info and updating it. At around 50 bucks it’s a book you will NEVER, NEVER regret buying.

I really feel this directory is one of the most valuable guides you will ever own because it is like having a professional Hollywood insider sitting next to you, helping you submit your script in a fashion where it will not be overlooked. Many are overlooked due to novice mistakes. It does not mean they are bad stories, it just means the process was not followed properly. Rise to the top of the pile when these movers and shakers weed through the mountain of submissions they receive every day. I know you think you have the best story ever written. Guess what, so do the thousands of people who submit their stuff every day. The edge you need is how to look professional and knowledgeable, so someone who has the power to decide will actually pick up you screenplay and read it. That edge is attainable. The steps you need to take are spelled out clearly and concisely in “The Hollywood Screenwriting Directory”.

If you are a screenwriter, this book is as essential to your career as your computer you write on is. The volume should be stored right next to your computer for easy reference. This reference book eliminates a huge “bump in the road” that most screenwriters hit when finishing their screenplay. It solves the mystery of “What should I do next and how?”. Learn how to write the perfect log line. What? Did you just ask what is a log line and why do I need it? Yup…you need this book. It teaches you how to write a treatment for your script. Again, did you just ask what a treatment is?? If you did you are NOT ready to sell your screenplay. Get the book. Get it now. Make your parents proud.

By Geno McGahee I am a huge fan of NIGHT TRAIN TO TERROR, but just recently found out that it consisted of several full length movies chopped up into little tales to fit into it. One of the movies that were used to make up that anthology was “THE NIGHTMARE […]
