This is a film where we have another “hell house.” This is a place where an underlining story of some wickedness surrounds it and the masses avoid it, with the exception of some teenagers that want to party. This is the case in “Night of the Demons,” a sad attempt to use some of the good things that made Evil Dead so special, and becomes a second rate Killer Party when it is all said and done.
The acting in this film is pretty bad and the characters are just repeats of the norms that we see in many horror films. The film is based around Judy (Cathy Podewell), the pure good girl that won’t have sex and the son of the preacher man and one of the only black guys to survive a horror film, Rodger (Alvin Alexis). We then have the fat idiot, “Stooge” (Hal Havins), who reminds me of Sam Adams of Evil Awakening, with his rants and raves and flat out rudeness. Sal (Billy Gallo) is another unbelievable character with a ridiculous accent and a wishy-washy character, somewhere in between hero and villain.
Well, this crew and a few more forgettable characters go to the hell house where they attend a party hosted by the goth girl and her friend, but that’s when it gets strange. Some of the partiers begin to be possessed by demons and terrorize the rest, eventually consuming all but Judy and Rodger. Any attempts by the creator of this film to be original or scary are obviously not there. This is a watered down version of Killer Party, and that’s saying a lot because that movie wasn’t all that good either.
Oh, and I should probably mention the anteater-like demon that is the head demon, I guess. He appears in the beginning of the film and at the end to growl from afar at the partiers. He must be part dog too.
If the world blows up and you survive and there are no copies of Evil Dead or Killer Party, and you find this DVD hanging around…well, don’t watch it then either. I can’t recommend this movie under any circumstances.
Scared Stiff Rating: 3.5/10. T&A, sure, but overall this is not worth watching at all.
