Massacre at Femur Creek is a short comedy horror flick written and directed by Kyle Hytonen. It is a hilarious homage to old-school slasher movies, specifically Friday the 13th. The story is set in 1984 and revolves around friends camping in the woods, only to get attacked by a killer. It is far from original, yet the film felt very fresh and creative. The 80s look worked for the film and the music was nothing short of fantastic. It reminded me of the low-budget grindhouse movies I’d watch late at night as a kid. The dialogue flows naturally and has some fun jabs about what life is like today with technology. Selfie anyone?!
Although it is less than 20 minutes long, there is no shortage of blood, guts and other severed body parts that I won’t mention. Massacre at Femur Creek is definitely worth a watch if you’re a fan of cheesy gory slashers. After watching it twice in one night, I’m pretty sure that this is the most fun you can have in 19 minutes with your clothes on. Well, perhaps not, but close enough. I have faith that Kyle Hytonen has what it takes to breathe life into the indie horror space and I can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.
