Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter, Lorelei Rose Taylor carefully treads the space between dreamy alternative and baroque-pop with a story of love, lust, and loss. Through cinnamon butter vocals and raw, lyrically pungent storytelling, she draws inspiration from the likes of The Cranberries, Jewel, Stevie Nicks, Florence and the Machine, and Sinead O’Connor. Today, she is exclusively streaming her debut EP, Versailles, due out tomorrow, via Uniquely Aligned. Give it a spin a day ahead of its release here.
On the five-track EP, Lorelei shares, “Château de Versailles is home to one of the most electric eras of my life. For so long, everything was decadent – full of love and lust and excess. And then it wasn’t. The EP is about the party being over and the gardens being overgrown. It’s about returning to Versailles with the only set of keys and realizing the locks were changed – sure, I could break in, but would it still feel like home? It’s about that.”
The forthcoming EP is the home of previously released singles, “Versailles,” “If He Love Another” and “When You’re Gone” – paying homage to the legendary Dolores O’Riordan of The Cranberries.
Born in Port Arthur, Texas and raised across Upstate New York, Lorelei Rose Taylor wrote her first song at 11-years-old. With no guidance, she began labeling keyboard keys with marker and “clumsily strumming” Jewel covers on acoustic guitar. Lorelei Rose Taylor turned her attention to college in 2012, moving to New York City where she studied communications at FIT; further minoring in English and forwarding to Florence, Italy to pursue Art History simultaneously.
Music returned to the forefront in 2017 when Lorelei Rose Taylor met Robbie Grabowski (I Can See Mountains, Super American). The two developed a friendship over the next year and half, and in February 2019, began writing and recording in Robbie’s East Village apartment. In August 2019, the two turned to Stephen Kellner and Jesse Cannon for studio production.
At the earliest stages of her career, Lorelei Rose Taylor is already setting the tone for love’s inevitable repercussions – and, as if Venus returned to Earth with a vengeance, she is seducing a higher signification that won’t remain unnamed for long.
Versailles is due out May 22, 2020. For more information, please visit https://www. loreleirosetaylormusic.com/.
