If you’ve read any of my previous reviews you know that I’m a bit conservative on dirty humor, whether it be a movie or joke, I just tend to not like it. I believe that most dirty humor is way too easy and simple to do. For example someone says “grab” then the joke is “I’ll give you something to grab”, or another person uses “mouth” in a sentence and then someone else jokes is “I’ll put something in your mouth”. It will definitely get a giggle, but no one will admire the jokester for their incredible sense of humor. It’s just not very challenging at all. I’ve seen lots of stand up acts where this is the case and I cringe. I like clever humor which is far more difficult to come up with and deliver. Clever humor has a far greater chance of flopping but when it’s funny it’s REALLY funny.
Enter Australian comedian Jim Jefferies with his new stand up comedy special “Fully Functional”. This guy is filthy, but incredibly funny. His jokes are, at times, uncomfortably dirty but also unbelievably clever. I popped this DVD into my player thinking; here we go with another simple comedian doing dirty jokes but am not ashamed to say I was wrong. Jim Jefferies entertained me with his act while at the same time he appalled me with the lines he crossed; nothing was sacred. I mean that in a very good way. I sat there saying “OH my god!” while laughing my head off (figuratively). I will say it may be a bit much for sensitive people. Let me rephrase, it WILL BE too much for sensitive people. You have been warned so do not blame me if you watch it and get angry. If you are not too sensitive then you have to get all your yuckster friends together and watch “Jim Jefferies: Fully Functional”.
I really enjoyed how he ripped apart double standards in dating and relationships. Jefferies nailed it! The things he talked about are relatable to anyone so that, in and of itself, keeps you involved. Jefferies is certainly comfortable on the stage even when the audience groans at one of his jokes that goes too far over the line. The man keeps his composure and makes you laugh even harder when he calls the audience out on their “groan”. Bottom line: I loved “Jim Jefferies: Fully Functional” but it is not for the faint of heart.
