Human Giant (2007) – Sketch Show

Some people say that I hate comedy and that I don’t know what funny is.  For example, When I declare how much I hate Adam Sandler flicks and movies that share a similar tone, I get eye-rolls.   When I tell co-workers that I have little desire to see the Hangover and I still want my $1.20 back from Hot Tub Time Machine they are taken aback probably thinking I’m some sort of pretentious twit who only finds humor in 1930s French comedies.

Though that isn’t true, I’m the first to say that there hasn’t been a truly funny sitcom since The Jeffersons…..well, maybe Cheers. I loathe comedy roasts.  Bad Santa wasn’t edgy it was just stupid, and I’m fairly convinced that Dane Cook and Jeff Dunham use some sort of mind-control (probably in the form of serving tons of alcohol to the patrons who see them live) to gain laughs.

Basically, this has been a lond-winded way of saying I’m very particular about my comedy and what I find funny.  Toilet humor is lame.  I like humor that raises the bar and provides new takes on old jokes adding elements that make them even funnier.

I had never heard of Human Giant. I stopped watching Mtv when Headbangers Ball stopped airing. The previews I’ve seen for atrocities like Jersey Shore or Teen Mom is enough to make me bow my head in absolute shame for humanity.

Nonetheless, a little over a year ago my husband introduced me to a podcast called How Did This Get Made. HDTGM chooses movies that were often mainstream flops and delves in to what the hell the mindset of the creators/actors were.  It’s hilarious and a lot of fun.

Well, as I usually become semi-obsessed with talented individuals I sought out the host of HDTGM Paul Scheer’s both current and former acting history.

NTSF SD SUV was fabulous.  There are no words other than to say I hope one day a full length movie is made from this skit.  It is worthy of a large budget.

The League (Netflix watch) is a pretty good show but it didn’t make me laugh aloud the way Scheer’s other projects had.  I think those who are more oriented towards sports may find this more up their alley.

Lastly, I bought Human Giant.  Human Giant is absurd, crazy, fun, and outrageously entertaining.  My only beef is that season 2 is not currently available.  I must insist that people purchase this from Amazon or wherever else fine merchandise is sold!  You must buy it to restore the natural balance of what actual humor is.

Now, that the great iconic George Carlin has sadly passed, we need a new comedic leader and Scheer is that man.

Scared Stiff Rating 10/10
