Invitation to Hell (1982) – Horror Movie Review

I had never even heard of this film before. I found it on a fan list of British Sleaze movies and coincidentally it was uploaded to YOUTUBE.  INVITATION TO HELL (1982) was released straight to video as a double feature with another production called THE LAST NIGHT (1982).

The movie opens with Jacky (Becky Simpson) being invited to a costume party by her friend Laura (Catherine Rolands). Jacky doesn’t have a costume, but her friends come prepared and put her into a wedding dress.

Things begin to get odd when the guests begin guiding her with torches to a ceremony. Before she can do anything, they drug her.  he awakens later with scratches on her body. She attempts to drive away but her car immediately dies. Without a choice, she returns to the house.

Her friends seem concerned yet helpless to do anything to to stop the events from unfolding. There is mystery surrounding exactly what they’re into and why they needed Jacky, but by the end the questions are answered and (spoilers) it has to do with Jacky being a virgin.

Laura’s guilt overwhelms her and she takes a risk to try and free Jacky from the horrible fate awaiting her.

Meanwhile, Maurice (Colin Efford) becomes possessed and starts to murder anyone that attempts to get in the way of the plan.

Simple yet effective is the best way to describe this horror semi-short. It has a basic score, no budget, cheap costumes and few special effects, yet were able to create something interesting and creepy.

This is a mix of CLASS REUNION MASSACRE (1978) and THE EVIL DEAD (1981) though tamer than both. Still, I highly recommend it, especially if you can watch it on YOUTUBE before the copyright cops take it down.

Scared Stiff Rating:  5.5/10
