Game Development and the PlayStation 5

In the coming months, Sony will officially release the PlayStation 5. As always with new consoles, there is a significant amount of intrigue concerning the development’s capabilities. Given that the device appears to have been revolutionized in many aspects, it is undoubtedly peaking the interests of users. That said, let’s consider how crucial the console’s games library could be to its long-term success.

What Games Can Users Expect Upon its Launch?

Having been announced back in 2019, Sony finally unveiled their latest console in June 2020. At the time of writing, the PS5 promises to be a success following a refined focus on overhauling numerous elements of the console’s predecessor, the PS4. Crucially, this involves a revamp of the device’s user interface, with the Japanese organization’s vice president of UX design, Matt MacLaurin, declaring that the company’s upcoming release will adopt a more pragmatic approach, while also being more customizable. While the development’s aesthetics and software are likely to a peak the interests of many in the gaming world, the console’s gaming library will likely be a decisive factor in determining the PS5’s success.

Following the console’s official launch, numerous titles have already been confirmed for the Sony creation. With the gaming devices release set for the end of 2020, its unsurprising that the development will cater to a wide array of pre-existing games, including Red Dead Redemption 2, for example.

However, in addition to that, and many other already-released titles, the PS5 has already confirmed several exclusive releases. As per a report by IGN, the Sony games console will be the home to a Demon’s Souls remake, in addition to Gran Turismo 7, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, as well as other titles.

A Need to Compete with Diverse Markets

Crucially, however, while the latest in the PlayStation series looks to have tackled a number of its pre-existing issues, the console’s success could be somewhat hindered by the progression of other, more diverse gaming alternatives. Following the rise of digitalization, mobile platforms have found increased success within the global gaming industry.

Because of that, the sector amassed up to 60 percent of the industry’s total revenue in 2019, according to an article by Mobile Marketer. In turn, this has resulted in increasing numbers of gamers seemingly switch their console allegiances, with a study by Tapabble declaring that smartphones are now the preferred gaming platform among 43 percent of players.

Fundamentally, the emergence of the mobile market can be attributed to the platform’s convenience, genre diversity, and the speed of game development. This remote approach has enabled smartphone developers to explore the potentials of thriving markets, such as free-to-play games or the iGaming sector, which have seen massive growth due to their convenience of use. For example, it is the accessibility of online casinos within the 21st century that have made them undeniably popular among contemporary gamers.

Platforms such as BonusFinder, for example, allow prospective casino gamers to find trusted operators in one secure location. Moreover, they also showcase the sign-up bonuses and no-deposit offers of reliable online casinos, such as BetMGM and PartyCasino.  Equally, free-to-play games such as Fortnite Battle Royale has become one of the latest games to capture the market due to addictive gameplay and no initial cost to start playing.

Time Will Tell, but Forward-Thinking is Vital

Ultimately, given it has yet to be released, it’s impossible to predict the levels of success that the PS5 will enjoy. However, there can be no doubts that forward-thinking developments in relation to titles will be integral to its longevity. Although the console won’t be able to ensure similar speeds regarding game development as mobile platforms, it can, however, seek to explore more diverse genres to maximize its audience base.
