Freedom Force (2013) – Children’s Movie Review

Terrible things are happening! A mad scientist has removed all the main characters from Jules Verne’s many stories and now four kids and their dog are chosen to go back in time to fix the tales. Not only have the characters been removed but the stories have been put out of order. All the books in the world reflect the change. The oddball group will encounter many obstacles in their travels, including runaway hot air balloons and giant sea creatures. Are they up to the challenge?

First I have to say the DVD art looks great on this. It immediately got my attention. It looks like this is going to be a high end cartoon such as those from Disney and Pixar. I am a fan of animated features and I excitedly popped this beauty into my DVD player. After watching the film for about 20 minutes I could take no more. I had no clue what the heck was going on. The story has absolutely no flow to it. I really tried to follow it but right from the beginning it starts bouncing around. There is no way, in my opinion, that a child (who I believe this is targeted for) would be able to follow the storyline. I don’t think most kids would even know who Jules Verne is. The story is too complex and bounces around too much.

I will be honest. I had to stop watching after a painful 20 – 25 minutes. I respect the fact that it is hard to create a movie, especially an animated feature, but there has to be a cohesive story. I felt zero connection with any of the characters. I know who I was supposed to root for but I just didn’t care. I tried to care, but couldn’t. I also understand that this is a kids movie but there is no way in the world a kid would follow this. I hope that I am wrong but I really can not imagine a young child sitting in front of the TV and understanding what is going on.

Consider yourself warned, but if you want to prove me wrong I will humbly admit my mistake in my harsh review of “Freedom Force”. If you want to take the challenge the links to purchase this animated movie are below. I would love to hear your opinion.

Purchase “Freedom Force”

Rating: 3/10 – “Terrible”

  1. I agree this movie was strange. That being said by 3 yr old
And 5yr old LOVED it. They both actually set still and watched
The whole movie. I won’t be buying the movie but since we
Rented at redbox I was happy with it.

  2. I rented this from redbox not having read your review and my 5 year old loves this movie. He watched it 3 times and wants me to buy it. That’s how I ended up here I am looking where to buy it on DVD.

  3. You are right on the mark with your review. There were many inappropriate segments in the movie for children as well as the fact it made no sense. I have three children, ages 11, 9 & 6, they couldn’t follow it whatsoever. Thanks for your review, I’ll be sure to look here for reviews before I rent movies, thanks!

By Geno McGahee I’m a big Bill Paxton fan. He is one of those actors that can carry a flick but has not reached the superstar status, but he has made quite the living. In the early 1990s, he took what he could get for work, as most struggling actors […]
