“Let’s make Vegas Great Again” was the post by UFC star and Conor McGregor conqueror, Khabib Nurmagomedov, in a challenge to Floyd Mayweather, JR. This is not a shocking move by the MMA undefeated master considering the huge amount of money both Floyd and Conor made in their pay per view event, but it’s not incredibly likely that the two will fight each other or that there will be much demand.
Much like Mayweather JR – McGregor, this bout suffers the same problems. If Khabib were to step into a boxing ring, he would lose. If Floyd gets into the cage, he loses. These are two different sports and despite the semi-success of Conor in his match with PBF, there was no way that he was going to win and he did not face a prime or well-conditioned Mayweather, JR.
Another problem with this fight with Khabib is that he is not Conor. He may be a better fighter, but he’s not a better showman and the appeal of a showdown would not generate nearly as much attention. You can’t blame a guy for trying, but Floyd apparently has different plans, including another fight with Manny Pacquiao. That fight seems more likely by the day, but that’s another fight that isn’t being called for.
So don’t hold your breath on Floyd taking on another UFC fighter. There’s just not much of a market for it. They may sign and prove me wrong, but it looks like Pacquiao will be the most likely opponent should Floyd come back, but which may not happen at all. Mayweather, JR., knows how to keep his name in the news without doing anything more than talking about what he may do, even without any intention of doing so.
