I am a huge fan of low budget/high imagination films. I’m a fan of low budget films in general, even if they are just silly, but entertaining. So, going through my enormous DVD collection, I came across a 10 pack of films that I bought about 10 years ago and among the films was a movie called “EVIL SISTER,” an interesting low budget flick.
Written and Directed by Doug DeMarco, we have a story about Roxanne (Kim Farina), a woman that has been locked up for 15 years for being mentally insane, but for some reason, she is being released. Her sister, Merrit (Joanne Rubino) and her husband, Tony (Bob Dickinson), pick her up and all seems normal at first, but one nurse appears concerned.
Roxanne becomes very flirty with Tony and leaves nothing to the imagination in the way that she dresses. She has no qualms about showing off her stuff and her sister is not too pleased with it. When Tony doesn’t jump at the chance to sex up Roxanne, she begins bringing in random guys to screw, further infuriating Merrit.
Michelle (Joliebeth Cope), a nurse that worked with Roxanne, arranges a meeting with Merrit and informs her that her sister isn’t really her sister. Roxanne is a succubus and both she and Tony are in grave danger. She is now certain that she must stop Roxanne before she ruins her marriage and the happy life that she and Tony built.
The sinister ways of Roxanne are on display and get worse as the movie goes on, killing and attempting to steal Tony away. The chaos in the home drives Merrit crazy and leads her to react in a terrible way that leads to the conclusion of this interesting low budget film.
EVIL SISTER has plenty of T&A, and I’m sure the sex was put into this film for distribution reasons, but it didn’t need it. The film is written well and the actors are rather good for a film on this level. The emotional argument between Tony and Merrit at the park was rather believable, and Farina does a great job at the evil Roxanne. I really liked this film. The only gripe I have with the film is the intro. The first 5 minutes of the film is basically a short version of the film, showing highlights of what you are about to see. I’m not sure if they did this to pad it, but it contained some spoilers and shouldn’t have been put at the start of the flick. If they were going to do it, they should have saved it to the end when we already saw everything.
If you can find it, I highly recommend EVIL SISTER, a low budget film with plenty of heart and ambition. They wanted to make a good movie and they did.
Scared Stiff Rating: 6.5/10
The T&A kept me watching this but I thought the end is cool
