Head Cheerleader, Dead Cheerleader (2000) – WES CRAVEN SCREAM RIPOFF Movie Review

In 1996, SCREAM came out and changed the direction of horror, inspiring many films, including a 2000 flick by the name of “HEAD CHEERLEADER, DEAD CHEERLEADER.” The low budget film by Jeffrey Miller that was amusing and very unoriginal. It is a terrible rip off of SCREAM.

We have Heather (Tasha Biering), the head cheerleader that is having issues with her boyfriend, Danny (Dan Roach), the quarterback of the high school football team. She has gotten around, having various other boyfriends of the past that arise during this film…including one creepy ex that brings her a painting as a peace offering…well it’s a painting of her in the nude. It didn’t go over well.

Cheerleaders start dying and most of them get their tits chopped off with an axe. They really liked the fake tit and threw it around quite often. The death scenes were all the same: the axe comes down and then a shot of a bloody tit hitting the floor. Talk about titty titty bang bang.

Now, after several cheerleaders are killed, we are bought to Heather’s house and she has countless people visiting her…all suspects and then she has to deal with a jerk off calling her over and over again. It’s so bad that it’s funny. I was actually laughing at how bad and not scary the caller was. And the caller’s voice was immediately identifiable. I was like: “Oh, OK, it’s that guy,” when I heard the call. At least in SCREAM, they had that voice distortion thing that they used, but I guess that comes with the budget.

Sometimes I wonder why people make movies. I watch a movie like this that has zero originality, written horribly, and am just curious why it was filmed. I’m sure that the idea was just to turn a buck and capitalize on the SCREAM success, but it’s got nothing going for it. If you saw SCREAM, you will watch this and scratch your head. I have seen a blatant rip off this bad in quite a long time.

In the end HEAD CHEERLEADER, DEAD CHEERLEADER is one that you should pass on, unless you are such a SCREAM fanatic that you have to see every single thing related to the franchise in one way or another. Otherwise, I don’t recommend this. I found it amusing, but I’m sure that it wasn’t the intent of the film. It just isn’t good.

Rating: 3/10 – SCREAM rip off and some titty titty bang bang
