Rock N Shock (2011)

Every year, right around Halloween, my husband and I travel up to Worcester MA and attend Rock N Shock at the DCU Center. For those who haven’t attended previously, it’s definitely something to mark the calendars for.

Last year, I had the great opportunity to meet the legendary David Hess and obtain his autograph. Sadly, he passed away earlier this month, but having the ability to share a few small words was something years from now, I’ll look back on fondly. Rock N Shock was where I first met Rowdy Roddy Piper as well. I’ve met him a couple more times at autograph signings and he was back this year. He has been a celebrity crush of mine for ages and being able to see him has always made me a giddy school girl. This year the great Robert Englund was present. The line to have a few moments of face time traveled nearly out of the arena itself. On Sunday, they gave fans tickets and allowed them to shop and peruse until the color of their ticket was called at which time they were able to go back and wait in a smaller line to meet him.

Though the celebrity portion of Rock N Shock is definitely worth the travel, it is far from the only reason to attend. Local filmmakers and low-budget production companies come out to sell movies and talk about their newest works. Make-up artists and special effects designers show off their goods as well. Everything horror related can be found. There are concerts and a small theater which shows horror movies. One can spend hours, walking around, shopping and watching films.

The best part of Rock N Shock is the movies. At any number of tables, one can find a movie they’ve been looking for or one they remember fondly as children but were never released. TV shows that are long over and impossible-to-find films are there for the taking.

As Halloween is both my and my husband’s favorite holiday, we always want to do something spectacular to celebrate. Rock N Shock is an amazing start to the celebration. For every Halloween and horror fan who hasn’t experienced it, there is always next year and you should definitely venture out!
