“Come to play”

And yes, yet again I take a look at another killer doll movie, but before I do, who can remember one of the first Killer doll type movies? I’m sure you weren’t around to watch it in person when it was released, unless we have some elderly followers? Okay I will tell you; was an anthology named, “Dead of Night” released in 1945. And then there was, “Devil Doll” in 1964. However there may have been doll movies before these, please do email me if you do know of any… Now back to this movie, it is an interesting little movie, as it has a religious plot to it, basically man’s curiosity again getting the better of him and tampering with sacred burial grounds…

The Movie…

Eliot (Sam Bottoms) and his wife, Marilyn (Denise Crosby) along with their children, Jessica (Candace Hutson) and Jimmy (Chris Demetral) are relocating to Mexico, the reason being, Eliot having purchased a doll factory, intending to make a huge success of the business, however the factory is situated next to an old mine, where archaeologist, are digging, seeking the tomb of some ancient tribe named, Sanzian, a tribe that were suppose to have been around back over a thousand years ago and had worshipped Satan and on discovery, evil spirits escape the tomb and find their way in to the factory, reanimating as dolls…

Jessica, while visiting the rundown factory with her father, falls in love with the dolls and therefore begins an unhealthy relationship with one of them that is possessed by one of the evil spirits…

This movie at times is genuinely creepy, such as in a scene where a priest is blessing the house and Jessica just freaks out, therefore it soon becomes obvious the demon within the doll intends to take over Jessica. Then there are scenes at the doll house that is situated at the bottom of the garden, Jessica, along with her possessed toy spending much time there, Jessica even having her hair styled like the doll…

Lupe Ontiveros, plays a great part in this movie, as the house keeper, Camilla, a superstitious and very religious woman, one the doll finds a threat and therefore poor Camilla, being the target for the doll.

In the meantime, young Jimmy as gained an interest in the mine and meets Archaeologist, Karl (Rip Torn) who has arrived in town to investigate what had happened to his colleague who had died when he had opened the tomb, therefore discovers the bones of a devil child.
And as the movie draws to a climax, Dolly Dearest reveals herself to Jessica’s family and has gained mental control over Jessica, therefore the doll has to be stopped and so does the other dolls that are attacking anyone that enters the factory…

So it is down to Eliot and his family along with Karl to find a way of stopping them…
This is a great doll movie that I truly enjoyed and would recommend…
