The IBF/WBO/WBC Light Heavyweight Champion, Artur Beterbiev, 19-0, 19 KO’s, retained his titles in a very tough fight with Anthony Yarde, 23-3, 22 KO’s, stopping the game challenger in round 8.
Beterbiev was fought his normal fight, coming at the anxious and jittery challenger. It was obvious that Yarde was a bundle of nerves, but he worked through it and started finding some success with left hooks and body work. Beterbiev is slow of foot and that was exploited by Yarde and the bout began turning into a firefight.
In round 5, both men had great moments and it was probably the best punches that Yarde landed. Yarde would find his second wind and started trying to impose himself on the monster of the light heavyweight division.
In round 8, Beterbiev was able to land a right hand that dropped Yarde. He got up confused but continued. A few seconds later, Beterbiev landed more shots that convinced Yarde’s corner to throw in the towel.
