Zombeavers (2014) Sharknado Meets Night of the Living Dead – Netflix Instant Watch Review

I’m a huge fan of movies that are “so bad” they’re good; especially when animals are involved. Whether Night of the Lepus (1972), Sharknado (2013), Man’s Best Friend (1993), or even Grizzly (1976); when the enemy is an animal, I’m nearly always on the enemy’s side. This film is no different.

Three girls decide to go to a cabin for the weekend. Nearby there’s a lake and a strange green moss everywhere. Mary (Rachel Melvin), Zoe (Cortney Palm) and Jenn (Lexi Atkins) are having fun and decide to look for a beaver. Zoe, topless, goes with them and comes across a big bear.

Smyth (Rex Linn) thankfully comes by. He’s a hunter who lives in town. He scares away the bear.

The girls thank him and go back to the cabin to be greeted by their boyfriends. Jenn is upset because she caught her boyfriend cheating on her which is why she wanted it be just a “girls’ outing”. Despite her anger, she allows them to stay.

The men are definitely the worst part of the film. They are all caricatures and have zero defining qualities. They lack depth and really are only present for body count.

The least annoying of the three is Tommy (Jake Weary). He’s Mary’s boyfriend. He’s boring and other than being the most heroic of the bunch, he’s really rather useless.

Next in line is Sam (Hutch Dano). Sam is annoying enough to be noticed and is always in it for himself. He’s tolerable but definitely the viewers will be rooting for his demise.

The worst character and the biggest distraction is Buck (Peter Gilroy). He’s like Stuart (Matthew Lillard) from Scream (1996) crossed with Jay (Jason Mewes) from Clerks (1994). Though he’s the first one attacked, he lives a lot longer than he should.

Otherwise, the movie is awesome. I love the beavers especially when it’s puppetry and practical effects over CGI.

I highly recommend this as a funfest where you can root for the bad beavers and still feel good about yourself because the people are just dreadful.

Scared Stiff Rating: 7.5/10
