Yurik Mamedov to Compete for Welterweight Title August 3 – Boxing News

Championship boxing returns to New Jersey as fast-rising welterweight Yurik Mamedov (11-1, 3 KOs) will compete in his first-ever title fight for the United States Boxing Federation (USBF) at the Showboat Atlantic City on August 3, 2019. Mamedov, sponsored by Resorts Casino Hotel, will co-main event a stacked card presented by Rising Star Promotions that also features popular bantamweight Christian Carto.

Mamedov is the first boxer sponsored by Resorts Casino Hotel since Morris Bailey took ownership in 2010. The title fight will mark Mamedov’s second match with the casino after an impressive win via unanimous decision over top contender Jordan Rosario in March 2019 — a performance that earned him a top-200 ranking worldwide for his class via Boxrec.com.

“It is truly thrilling to watch a remarkable talent like Yurik proudly represent Resorts Casino Hotel every time he steps into a ring and proves he is one of boxing’s most promising competitors,” said Mark Giannantonio, president & CEO, Resorts Casino Hotel. “While his astounding record speaks for itself, Yurik possesses an athleticism that is best experienced in-person. Any fan of boxing will not want to miss this incredible opportunity to watch an up-and-coming star get a shot at his first major title.”

Now based out of Brooklyn, New York, the Russia-born Mamedov is known as the ‘Fighting Pride of Yezidi.” Since making his professional in-ring debut in Boston, Massachusetts in 2016, the 28-year-old has quickly climbed the ranks as a legitimate contender in the Welterweight division.

“This is an incredible opportunity as a win. Not only does it make me a part of history as the first Yezidi to win a major U.S. title, but it would earn me the International Boxing Federation ranking needed to progress toward my ultimate goal of a world title shot in the near future,” added Mamedov.

Doors will open at the Showboat Atlantic City at 6 p.m. with the undercard scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Tickets are available for $55 to $200 at  rspboxing.com.
