They don’t make them like they used to. Shows like THE JEFFERSONS and THREE’S COMPANY showed what humor could be and that also goes for the classic TV series “WELCOME BACK KOTTER.” The tune to open the show is so iconic and the cast is unique and fun. John Travolta was basically launched from this show and I’m very happy to see this series make its way to DVD.
There are 95 episodes featured on this set, which is everything a Kotter fan would want. Actually, anyone that is a fan of raw comedy will enjoy. The story is about Gabe Kotter, a high school teacher that returns to his childhood inner-city high school to teach a class and encounters some hilarious situation and some that are dramatic. This show is a comedy but it never shied away from taking on serious topics.
The cast and characters are a lot of fun. Watching them interact, fight or support each other, is just really entertaining stuff. The commentary from Kotter as he observes much of this behavior is a big part of the success of the show. Kotter is always ready with his punch lines and they build up the jokes with precision. This is comedy at its best and now people can see it again or be introduced to it for the first time.
The show is released by Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment, bringing 35 hours of entertainment from a show that deserves this great release. The presentation is great with the artwork, case and great transfer. The visuals and audio are great and it’s really the only way to watch the show. I am happy to have this in my collection.
