Welterweight, Victor Ortiz, JR., 14-0, 14 KO’s, had a very tough opponent in front of him tonight and had to earn his victory, but did so in great fashion with a sixth round knockout over former title challenger, Antonio Orozco, 28-2, 17 KO’s.
In the first round, Ortiz, JR., landed some good shots and had Orozco in a little bit of trouble, but he held on and started to push the larger Ortiz, JR., back to the ropes and gets some shots in. Orozco was able to land some shots and press Ortiz, JR., but the power and aggression was the deciding factor.
In a relatively even fight going into the sixth, Ortiz, JR., started to really open up, landing a left uppercut that put Orozco down. He got up and was put down again with a barrage of punches. He would get up at 9 and then try to survive but the referee would stop it after a third knockdown.
Victor Ortiz, JR., is one of the most exciting fighters in boxing and proved it once again tonight. He is a monster puncher with a lot of heart. He showed he can deal with a motivated opponent with skill tonight.
