Back in the 1970s, variety shows were the thing and they beat the hell out of today’s reality shows that we see everywhere. One of the most popular, if not the most popular, of the reality shows was the Carol Burnett Show and now, we Time Life has released the 50th anniversary edition and it’s about as good as it gets. Comedy can age poorly, but not here. This is still laugh out loud funny stuff.

Despite the show being a smidge before my time, there were so much recognizable spoofs, including well-known films and commercials. There was just a level of fun that you can feel that the cast was having and that really resonates with the audience. The cast was having a blast, so you do too.

Seeing Vicki Lawrence, prior to her run on MAMA’S FAMILY and Tim Conway, was great and they both brought a lot to the show. This is what SNL should be now. They could learn a lot from this. The show focuses strictly on laughs and they succeed. I cannot recommend this set enough. It’s really a fun time.

The set was released on August 6th from Time Life TV DVD, containing 21 discs and endless hours of laughs really.

Here are some notes about the release:
