The Wrecks To Perform in Block by Blockwest Minecraft Festival – May 16th – Music News

Alt-Rock band The Wrecks are beyond thrilled to be hitting the main stage at this weekend’s Block By Blockwest Festival happening completely online through the world of Minecraft on Saturday, May 16th. Proceeds from Block By Blockwest will go to the Coronavirus Emergency Response Fund. Festival organizers have partnered with Digital Ocean to access 10 TB of RAM and developers all over the world to streamline admission and system function. This will help ensure an enjoyable and accessible online experience for all festival-goers. More information and links to all streams are available at http://www.blockbyblockwest.com/.

“Missing tour is very similar to feeling homesick,” shares front man Nick Anderson. “We’re grateful that BXBW put together an event that allows us to perform on a virtual festival stage and actual see the crowd. I’m excited to walk around and check out the art and merch, as well as listen to what other artists have put together for the event.” The band will be playing on Stage One at 8:50pm ET alongside artists including Nothing, Nowhere, Oliver Francis, Pussy Riot, Grandson, Sir Sly, Movements, Citizen, Fever 333, Knocked Loose, Courier Club, Hunny, Wicca Phase Springs Eternal, Against The Current, Deal Casino, Rich People, Kitten and more.

This will be fans’ first chance to hear live music from the band since their debut full-length was released via Big Noise earlier this month. The culmination of over two years of hard work,  Infinitely Ordinary is made up of 8 honest tracks that fully encompass the Los Angeles-based quartet’s desire for perfection that is anything but ordinary. Fans can watch the lyric video for the album’s title track today here.

We’ve re-written and re-recorded [the record] two and a half times,” shares vocalist/producer Nick Anderson“In that time, I started producing for other bands and artists. I expanded my repertoire and skill set, and was able to introduce some of those elements into our own music.” In addition to this, Anderson listened to a wide range of artists that turned into the album’s influences: Grouplove and Cage the Elephant were mainstays, as well as classics such as Pulp and New Order. All of this made for an eclectic range of input into the new record-but to Anderson, it was the only way it made sense. “We made a greatest hits compilation of our writing from the last two years,” he says, “and that’s what the album is.”

Led by Anderson and rounded out by Aaron Kelley (bass), Nick “Schmizz” Schmidt (guitar) and Billy Nally (drums), The Wrecks have created an album that jumps from the anxiety-inducing “Freaking Out” to the self-sabotage anthem “Fvck Somebody”, the heart-pounding Out Of Style,” to the introspective ballads title track – and throughout it all, Anderson had one goal in mind. “Music has to be honest for me, before anything else,” he says. “All of our songs are through stories, the anecdotes all happened-that’s the only way I know how to write something that feels impactful.”

The Wrecks formed in 2015 in Thousand Oaks, CA. With heavy influences from The Pixies, The Strokes, and Weezer, they snuck into a recording studio to self-produce their debut EP, We Are The Wrecks. The group’s 2018 follow-up, Panic Vertigo, earned similar acclaim, with Ones To Watch hailing the four-piece as “indie rock’s best kept-secret” and Billboard calling them “as authentic and honest as possible.” Since then, the band has secured a number of nationwide tours while opening for bands such as Nothing But Thieves, Silversun Pickups, The Struts, New Politics, Paramore, and All Time Low.
