THE VAMPIRE DIARIES: THE COMPLETE SIXTH SEASON has just been released on blu-ray and DVD with a Digital HD download by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. This was the first time that I have seen this series and I was immediately impressed with the presentation. This show has a very cinematic look and it looked great in HD. The artwork on the box and the sturdy construction of the case made it a nice addition to my collection. You really can’t get any better than the presentation.

The show is as advertised. It is an edgy vampire drama, dialogue-driven, that focuses as much attention and the writing and character development as they do the overall look of the show. Every location is a character and feeds into the gothic vibe that they are setting. There are 22 one-hour episodes, and a lot of special features to sink your fangs into.

Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) is caught in a love triangle between Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somehalder). We begin season six with the loss of Damon and Elena attempting to cope with it. We lead in with the episode “I’LL REMEMBER” and it covers her despair. She goes back to college and tries to get things back together. Tyler becomes human and is coming to terms with his anger issues as Alaric (Matt Davis) is dealing with being non-human and the life of a vampire.

Elena seeks help from Alaric to move on with her life. Enzo (Michael Malarkey) and Caroline (Candice Accola) team up and Damon becomes the focus once again. Throughout the season, there is a slow dance between Elena and several of the characters, but mostly with Damon. The show is built on emotional tugs of war. At one point, Stefan has to deal with the loss of his girlfriend and has to control his rage as he avenges her death. You also find out in this show that dead is not always dead especially when it comes to vampires.

I didn’t expect to enjoy THE VAMPIRE DIARIES: THE COMPLETE SIXTH SEASON as much as I did. The cast is so well chosen, the storylines are kept fresh and there are enough surprises to keep anyone interested. The show relies on tight writing and character development. You will be rooting for and against certain characters as you watch this season unfold. It is gothic horror done right and it feels more like a movie than a TV show with the creative cinematography, locations, and look.

This is the perfect set for a rainy weekend. With 22 hours worth of show and many more hours worth of extras, you will have your days full of some vampire goodness. If you liked the show, the sixth season is an easy sale, but if you’ve seen the show, you may not have seen it like this. The presentation is so incredible that it might be something you’d want to add to your collection just because of the quality of the set. I highly recommend THE VAMPIRE DIARIES: THE COMPLETE SIXTH SEASON.

R.O.T.O.R. (1987) – SCI-FI MOVIE REVIEW

By Geno McGahee The 1980s were a very special time for film. You had great films like ROBOCOP, TERMINATOR and MANIAC COP, and the producers of the ultra-low budget film R.O.T.O.R, obviously watched all three, enjoyed them, and then made a film heavily inspired by them. The idea is nothing […]
