SpongeBob SquarePants is one of the most popular cartoons and the new big screen release: “THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: SPONGE OUT OF WATER” has been doing very well at the box office. Adults are not the target audience for this film, but there is enough humor in it to keep the grown-ups laughing. That is also the case with the TV show and is part of the reason for its immense popularity.

Burger Beard (Antonio Banderas) has stolen the formula for the crabby patty, turning Bikini Bottom into chaos. Mr. Krabs is convinced that Plankton has stolen it and has turned the angry mob against him. SpongeBob knows that Plankton is innocent and helps him escape, causing the entire population of Bikini Bottom to turn against him, even his best friend, Patrick.

The friendship between SpongeBob and Plankton develops as they try to figure a way to save the day. They create a time machine and attempt to go back to a time when the crabby patty formula was still in the safe, but their attempts end in disaster.

Burger Beard opens his own crabby patty restaurant and is using a book to control the outcome, leading to a big fight for ownership. When SpongeBob is able to write his own story, the stars of the show come to the surface and into the real world and become superheroes. At this point, the movie gets really amusing and fun.

Antonio Banderas was really great in this film. You can tell that he has a great time in this role. His final showdown with the SpongeBob crew is fast-paced, funny, and action-packed. The film leads to a fun conclusion and the familiar theme song, along with a rap battle between some seagulls and a magical dolphin.

THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: SPONGE OUT OF WATER was rated a 10/10 by my ten-year-old son and that’s probably the better rating than mine. He, and my daughter, loved it and laughed the entire time. I found myself laughing quite often and it was a fun experience. The film was primarily a cartoon, with only the last twenty minutes featuring the “out of water” animation, but it still delivered and was worth a watch. If you have children, they will probably really enjoy this and you’ll be able to find things that you’ll enjoy as well.

Rating: 7/10

Ouija (2014) - Redbox Rental New Horror Film Review

By Melissa Antoinette Garza I had heard nothing but awful things about this movie.  Still, I love Ouija boards and movies about them.  Whether The Exorcist (1973), Witchboard (1986), or even the romantic comedy Only You (1994) Ouija boards are great for movies. Though, Steve and my brother Geno were […]
