OK, the second season of MASTERS OF HORROR has not been in the same league as the first, but they’re still pretty good and “pretty good” is the best way to describe THE SCREWFLY SOLUTION tale.
There is a virus going around that are turning all men into women-hunting killers. There is case after case of men attacking women viciously and murdering them and it’s linked to arousal. If the guy gets horny, the girl gets hurt, and with the amount of horny bastards out there, the murder rate is rising.
Two people seem to know what is going on. Alan (Jason Priestley) and Barney (Elliot Gould) are both scientists and know that things are getting out of control. Barney suggests that all military and police get chemical castrations to get their mind off of sex and focus on saving humanity, but that idea is shot down. I can’t blame the military for being against it. Who wants to shut their cock off? It would take a lot more than the end of humanity to convince me.
Jason Priestley really can’t hold a scene with Gould. Gould steals every scene and Priestley’s performance is just dull. I’ve been a “Gould is Good” advocate for a long time (This is the first time I ever used the term Gould is Good, but it just fit). He just delivers every time not matter how bad the material is. His performance in this was very good and his delivery was very over the top. He may be an over-actor at times, but I love over acting!
Alan warns his wife, Anne (Kerry Norton) and daughter, Amy (Brenna O’Brien) to stay far away from him. If he gets horny, people get broke. Anne gets a gun and is ready to bust a cap in his ass if he shows up, but Amy will protect her dad, and does when he arrives.
There is one scene that is sort of troublesome …well there’s a couple. When Amy and Anne walk by a fat construction worker, he begins hooting and lifting his shirt, showing his moobs (man boobs). Amy shows him by shaking her ass, and at 15, you would think that her mom would lay down the law. You shouldn’t shake your ass to a fat construction worker until you’re at least 17. Call me old fashioned.
The other scene involves Alan feeling up his daughter. Come on man! I know you’re a sex-crazed murderous zombie, but that is too far! Shame on you.
All women of the world are killed, but Gould saves Anne, transforms her to a man…on the outside, and tries to help her live, but some of the men soon find out that she’s a chick and she is now being hunted.
What spread this virus? What killed off all the women of the world? What? Can you guess? Yes, it was aliens. Terrible CGI aliens did it. Why is it always fucking aliens? I’m so fucking tired of aliens being the cause of every bad thing in horror films.
THE SCREWFLY SOLUTION is OK…just OK. It’s worth a watch, but the ending is disappointing. It’s a forgettable entry in the Masters of Horror series.
