The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore (2015) – Don’t Miss This Show

It’s a rarity I review TV shows.  I generally spend my time talking about horror or sometimes chick flicks.  Still, there’s always an exception to the rule and The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore is that exception.  I’ve always loved Mr. Wilmore on The Daily Show.  He was hilarious and among many genius comedians stood out.  I’d always get giddy when he’d come on because I knew I’d be in for a treat.  I still go to The Daily Show’s website and watch clips of him.  I even went back and found some of his stand-up which was also amazing!

I also loved The Colbert Report.  It was a smart parody and an exaggeration of right-wingers and Teabaggers… I mean the Tea Party.  I was upset to see it go, but happy that Mr. Colbert was hired to take over for Letterman.

When I found out Mr. Wilmore was getting his own show, I had no idea what to expect.  Was it going to be another Daily Show?  Was he going to parody someone?  I could not wait until the show aired and it was worth the wait!  I knew I’d like it but I didn’t expect it to have so much originality.

It’s not the typical comedy show.  It doesn’t have skits.  Every episode is about a single major and controversial topic whether it be the recent football scandal (I live in MA and sorry The Patriots did it), the allegations against Bill Cosby (yeah, the show went there) and even the Koch Brothers owning the world; whatever the topic, it’s always funny, intelligent and most importantly honest.

It’s not about partisanship or loyalty to a certain entity (unless its  Mr.Wilmore and The Lakers).  Mr. Wilmore starts each show introducing the topic and immediately tells the audience where he stands.  Then a panel of four are introduced.  They discuss the topic and their take on the situation and if someone is being dishonest or disingenuous, Mr. Wilmore will call them right out on it.

Then there’s the best part of the show.  It’s called Keep it 100.  Each panelist is asked a tough question and the audience by cheering or jeering decides whether the person is being 100% real or lying through their teeth.  If they keep it 100, they get a sticker.  If not, they get some weak tea.  The show ends with Mr. Wilmore being asked a question taken from Twitter, and he too has to keep it 100 and he does.  He doesn’t hold back.  It’s awesome to see something so genuine and real on TV.  It’s a hilarious show that my husband and I enjoy watching every night and we DVR it and watch it again.  We DVR the show even though we have HULU and it’s on HULU the next day!  We then watch it off HULU.  It’s a great show!Whether you’re a The Daily Show fan, a fan of The Colbert Report, or just looking for a hilarious yet intelligent way to spend a half an hour.

The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore airs at 11:30 PM EST Monday through Thursday on Comedy Central and as stated above can also be viewed on HULU.

Scared Stiff Rating: 10/10  Now that’s keeping it 100!

Kangaroo Jack (2003) – Jerry O’Connell, Estella Warren FAMILY MOVIE REVIEW

By Geno McGahee A family movie about a kangaroo in a red hoodie sounded too good to be true. OK, I couldn’t find anything to watch on Netflix, so I just randomly picked KANGAROO JACK, a 2003 film that proved to be a lot better and funnier than I anticipated. […]
