The travels of Dr. David Banner (Bill Bixby) bring him to a lot of different places and he remains under the radar, keeping a low profile to avoid that prick Jack McGee (Jack Colvin), but his problem always screws him. The big problem, as I see it, isn’t the fact that he Hulks up. It’s Banner’s appearance. He a nerdy guy and rednecks and bullies pick on guys like that and therefore, the arrival of the Hulk is a given. If Banner dressed tougher, possibly getting a skull tattoo and a leather jacket, he may avoid some of the harassment.
Banner makes his way to the small town of Antowuk, a struggling town that has been hit hard by the economy and lack of tourism. The owner of a shop, Harlen (William Lucking), takes Banner aboard as a hired hand. Banner is working strictly for room and board, and Harlen is a complete dick to him, threatened by his intelligence. When Banner re-arranges the store to make it more organized and increase sales, Harlen gets pissed off. Harlen’s young daughter, Samantha (Debbie Lytton), likes Banner and enjoys science, which is Banner’s specialty, and he begins mentoring her and that is another strike against him.
Harlen begins bullying Banner and eventually pays for it when he pushes him over the edge and he hulks out and kicks the shit out of him and his boyfriend…well, I’m assuming it was his boyfriend. The media shows up and Harlen comes up with an idea to bring tourism to the town…he’s going to bring “The Antowuk Terror” to the town, dressing up as a monster and crashing some events, growling and chasing people.
It works, but hunters now plan to kill the monster, and Banner attempts to warn him, which I don’t understand. If I was getting bullied and a bunch of guys with guns were going to go and kill the shithead, I would make myself and iced coffee and wait by the phone for the good news, but Banner wants to see Harlen live and tries to help him, but once again, he is pushed around and thrown down a hill, once again hulking out. On the surface, the showdown between Hulk and the Antowuk Terror looks good as they face off and circle each other, but it was a mismatch and Hulk beats the living shit out of him in seconds.
Some old prick shoots the Hulk and gets his gun broken for it. I would have liked to see the Hulk do some prison style justice on his ass. I know it was a family show, but sometimes, a Hulk has to do what a Hulk has to do, and a little slam in the boom boom for an old man with a gun is the right thing! The guy tried to kill him for Christ’s sake!
Overall, I enjoyed the episode. I sort of wish that Hulk killed Harlen…ripped his arms off and beat him to death with them. I hate bullies. But, I did like the episode. I recommend it!
Scared Stiff Rating: 7/10. Hulk hates Posers.
