The former 4-division world champion, Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, 39-5, 25 KO’s, stopped the formerly undefeated WBA bantamweight champion, Ryan Burnett, 19-1, 9 KO’s, in the fifth round. It wasn’t the typical Donaire knockout, but a stoppage nonetheless, as Burnett suffered a back injury in the fourth round and could not continue. He would be taken out of the ring and given oxygen after.
This victory continues the journey for Donaire as he progresses to the WBSS bantamweight semi-final against Zolani Tete. Donaire has been written off in the past after some rough goes, but he’s got a title again and has a lot of momentum. The fight against Tete should be interesting and could go either way. Stay tuned…
