The Best Bingo Movie Scenes

Geno

Given that bingo has been around for almost five centuries, it is not that big a surprise that it has appeared in a number of movies over the years. The game is played in all cultures, by people from all walks of life and by people of all ages. Because of its versatility, it can be seen in movies of different types, ranging from kids animations to adult action flicks. In this article we will discuss some of the more notable bingo movie scenes.

Hotel Transylvania

This animation from Columbia Pictures is about Dracula, who runs a top-end resort to get away from the human world.  One of the scenes shows a very dull looking game of bingo.  The room is dark and you can see the stone walls and bookshelves in the background. The bingo caller looks close drained of any excitement as she begrudgingly calls the ball numbers.  Interestingly, there are mini skulls in the cage, instead of bingo balls.  The caller pulls one out and it whispers its number to the caller.

All of a sudden, a New York woman marks off her last number and begins to shout “Bingo, bingo!”  She waves her hands excitedly and then makes a comment to the character sitting next to her.

The Wog Boy

The scene starts with a young man shouting bingo numbers somewhere in Australia.  He reads out the final number in four different languages, and upon calling in Chinese, a man jumps out of his seat.  The caller walks out to meet the winner with the prize.  In this case, the prize is a stone statue of a lion (which the Chinese man seems disappointed with, expecting an elephant).

When walking out of the door and saying goodbye to everyone, the caller (Steven), is pulled aside by a woman who claims her son is in trouble with the government.  Steve then tells the lady that he knows how to handle the government and that he would fix the issue.  The gratuitous woman then gives his a gift to thank him for the bingo, which he opens to reveal some strange small white figurines.  Steven looks confusedly at the present as he walks away.

Rampage

The scene in this movie is particularly interesting.  Without knowing the context of the movie, the scene is totally bizarre.  The movie is about a man who, determined on revenge, makes himself a Kevlar suit and goes on a killing spree.  Among his travels, he comes across a bingo hall, which he casually walks into dressed as a super-villain.  He walks up to the food counter and orders a sandwich and iced tea, which he doesn’t pay for.  He then goes and sits down at a bingo table and puts two semi-automatic guns on the table.  It is surprising that by this stage, no one has even acknowledged his presence!  He then walks up to the bingo caller and grabs a ball out of her hand, calling the number.  It is only at this point that the rest of the hall becomes aware of him.  As if his deed is done, he slowly walks to the door and out onto the street.  Seconds later, the caller continues with her job, and normality is restored.
