I recently was sent a children’s book: “THAT’S NOT YOUR MOMMY ANYMORE – A ZOMBIE TALE” by Matt Mogk with illustrations by AJA Wells, which is part of the “Zombie Research Society Book Club.” I read children’s books all of the time to my two kids, so I can say that I really enjoyed this one by comparison, but I’m a horror guy, so it’s not surprising.
My wife is a teacher and my son is a kid of 6, so I elected to hand the book over to them for review. I felt that my fist pumping “great zombie book” wouldn’t reflect the way that children would feel about it. So, here are the reviews from my family.
My wife said: “This book is cute but definitely not for young children. The pictures are creepy, but well drawn and the colors are very vibrant. The blood and gore was a little too much. It’s catchy and may be good for Halloween, but not for children.”
My six year old son said it “was the scariest book ever,” and that he “didn’t like it,” considering it too scary.
Well, I enjoyed it. So, THAT’S NOT YOUR MOMMY ANYMORE – A ZOMBIE TALE may be perfect for 36 year old horror fans, but perhaps not for children under 10 and adult female that are not horror fans. I certainly would recommend it for any zombie fan out there.
