Tales from the Crypt: Lover Come Hack to Me (1989) – Episode Review

This episode stars one of my favorite actresses, Amanda Plummer.  She has such a presence about her.  Even in low budget movies like Satan’s Little Helper, she always brings her A game and adds depth to her characters.

Lover Come Hack to Me is no exception.   Plummer stars as Peggy, a shy sweet woman worth a lot of money.  She has been protected and sheltered for years by her Aunt Edith (Lisa Figus).  She meets Charles (Stephen Shellen) who her aunt instantly sees through.  He is merely with her to get to her money.   Though Peggy doubts his sincerity as well, the two get married.

The duo go off for their honeymoon but a huge storm blocks the exit.  Then, their car keys go missing.  They have no choice but to run to a nearby house.  Though, Charles does his best to be nice to her, one can easily see he has contempt for her.  When she’s in another room, he reveals his intentions by taking out a gun.

The ending is far-fetched but still pretty cool.  Like most episodes, it’s not scary but quite entertaining and offers a moral.

The acting was great.  Stephen Shellen is easily recognizable from his roles in The Stepfather (1987) and Casual Sex? (1988).  I always thought he had a unique look and style to him and was good at his craft.  I would have liked to see him in more roles.

Overall, this is definitely worth the watch.  It’s a fun tale that though doesn’t force you to think is certainly more stimulating than most of the shows on TV today.

Scared Stiff Rating:  7/10

By Melissa Antoinette Garza   Though this episode of Tales from the Crypt shows a very dark side to taxidermy, it reminded me of a conversation I recently had over my brother’s house.  To be honest, taxidermy is probably a topic that is discussed more in my home than most […]
