Taleen Kali has released her new single, “#1 Crush” (Garbage cover).Stream HERE. Produced by Kristin Kontrol (FKA Dum Dum Girls), the cover is a dark and noisy version of the 1996 hit song featured in the Baz Luhrmann film, William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. “I chose to cover ‘#1 Crush’ to marry my love of Shakespeare and my musical heroes, Garbage,” explains Kali. “This song is how I became turned onto dark alternative ’90s music, so it’s an honor to pay musical homage to Garbage by releasing our own version of the song for the Halloween season.” For more information on Taleen Kali, please visit: https://taleenkali.com/.
 
Taleen Kali is an artist, musician and writer native to Los Angeles. After coming up in the DIY scene as frontwoman of riot grrrl band TÜLIPS (2011-2016), she debuted her solo project at Echo Park Rising Fest in 2016 and has since opened for bands such as Ex HexAlice BagKimya DawsonMadame Gandhi and more.
 
Taleen’s debut album, Soul Songs, was released in 2018 via Lolipop Records. Produced by Kristin Kontrol, the album finds Taleen’s riot grrl ethos maturing into a polished punk sound with noise pop, shoegaze and new wave influences. The album was featured in Stereogum, who likened the sound to a darker Blondie, BUST Magazine, who called it “dark and danceable,” and Pitchfork’s Guide to Summer Albums, as well as LA Weekly‘s Best Indie Punk Albums lists.
 
A multi-hyphenate to the core, Taleen is founder of what LA Times calls “cult favorite” DUM DUM Zine and organizes literary events, sound healing events and writes when she’s not on tour.
