(Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this blog post. The opinions I share are my own.)
On February 11th, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment releases SWAMP THING: THE COMPLETE SERIES on Blu-ray and DVD, with all 10 of the episodes. The DC Universe original series brings a much different feel and look than the movie that I was so accustomed to as a child, but it was a real amazing and dark series that surprised me quite often with its approach and style.
The show has a very cinematic feel from the outset and it plays out like a horror film to a great degree. The show takes place in Louisiana where something has come from the swamp. Abby Arcane travels with her partner to the swamps and strange things begin to happen and soon her partner is transformed into Swamp Thing, which is only the tip of the iceberg. The small town in Louisiana has plenty of secrets.
Each episode bleeds into the next and there is an aura of mystery that leads to continued intrigue and enough monster action to satisfy any Swamp Thing fan. The tragedy of Alec, the man that became Swamp Thing, is put forth in such a great way. A life destroyed turned into a mission of justice, Swamp Thing serves as a scary protector consumed in sadness. SWAMP THING: THE COMPLETE SERIES is an outstanding series that feels like a horror film that could have easily been put on the big screen. I highly recommend it.
