(Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this blog post.  The opinions I share are my own.)

On September 8th, SUPERGIRL: THE COMPLETE FIFTH SEASON will be released on digital, blu-ray and DVD from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, featuring 19 episodes along with some really cool extras.  The Blu-ray set comes with all five DC crossover episodes, which are always a lot of fun.

Season five is another big battle between Supergirl and Lex Luthor, with Luthor using technology and his advances to try to control the world.  Luthor was so slowly introduced into the series that this run he’s having in season five feels so fresh and interesting.  Luthor is always the most notable bad guy in the Supergirl/Superman story, but I don’t think that the character has ever been more explored than in this series.

Luthor becomes a big thorn in the side of Supergirl, but he’s not the only one.  Leviathan, a group of very powerful people looking to control the world and this is where the battle against technology comes into play.  Supergirl does what she can to juggle the fights and tries to stop the goals of the two villains to enslave humanity and get rid of her, the only thing standing in the way of their end goal.

The season moves along so well and the eventual teaming with Brainiac and Luthor is really interesting.  These episodes just bleed into each other and are very easy to binge watch.  The quality of the blu-ray release is quite amazing.  It has that great look and the extras I found very fun.   I highly recommend SUPERGIRL: THE COMPLETE FIFTH SEASON.  I’m a big fan of the characters to begin with and the prior seasons.  This is possibly the best season thus far in the series and the focus on Lex Luthor made it all that better.
