Sodoma’s Ghost (1988) – Horror Movie Review

Leave it to Italian horror icon Lucio Fulci to write and direct a film about sexually frustrated Nazi ghosts terrorizing tourists.

The film opens in Paris during WWII. Some Nazis are hanging in a villa having an orgy. Voyeur Aryan bastard Willy (Robert Egon) walks around enjoying the spectacle and videotaping it all. Drugs, alcohol and sex games with glam gals in fishnets are everywhere. The group of bigoted murderers and hotties are having a grand old time of excess and indulgence as the cocaine flows and a woman dances until near death. Suddenly, a bomb hits and kills everyone inside anyways – so dance, girl dance!  Though dead, their horny spirits remain. I’m all for midnight visits from sex demons, but I draw the line at Nazi sex demons. A girl must have standards.

In modern Paris 1988, Mark (Claus Aliot), Paul (Alan Johnson) John (Sebastian Harrison), prudish Anne (Teresa Razzauti),her girlfriend Maria (Jessica Moore) and Celine (Mary Salier) are tourists and get lost. They come to the Nazi Orgy house and decide to stay there. It’s a kick-ass abandoned place and other than the amorous Nazi ghosts, what is there to lose?

Everyone agrees to be respectful of the place and only take what is needed. They turn the lights on and start looking around the huge mansion. Celine finds a bunch of Nazi art and they marvel over it all not knowing its history. Some of the stolen art is erotic in nature which turns on Maria (Jessica Moore). She tries to get Anne (Teresa Razzauti) to play with her, but the gal finds it all vulgar.

Jean raids the wine cellar and grabs a few expensive bottles. Mark tries to keep perspective and reminds them not to take anything. When they reemerge, the men start to notice a few weird paranormal oddities, but hungry they opt to eat instead. They then all go to bed separately.

Willy is the first spirit to show and he chooses Anne as his conquest. In only panties she glances at herself in the mirror before climbing in to bed. It is then that Will emerges. Anne doesn’t know he’s a ghost and think he’s the owner of the house. She asks for her clothes, but he’s frisky. She offers to leave, but Willy boy doesn’t want her to go. He has other plans. He tells her he’s been watching her thru the mirror and knows what she really wants. He has some sexy afterlife wisdom going on.

Anne tries to show modesty and covers herself. She claims not to have sexual desires, but he disagrees. He slaps her hard twice and then asks if she liked it. When he draws blood on the third, it becomes apparent that she’s into it. She tries resistance, but when he licks the blood from her face and uses his hands to spread it onto her waist with a hint of going lower, she gives in and admits that she wants it. He goes lower and the two have passionate, insane sex. It’s a magnificent scene. Give it up for camera boy…. not for being a Nazi- That’s horrible! BAD NAZI! He belongs in hell!  Still, the slightly rough sex was nice.  (Okay class, say thank you to Mr. Fulci)

The next day, she thinks it was a nightmare. With nightmares like that who needs dreams? The group attempt to leave and return to their travels but the route leads back to the Nazi house. Paul thinks he figured out what occurred and that they took a wrong turn. They plan to try again the next day, but the car failed. Those ghosts want their toys to stay!

They try to call the police, but get a cemetery instead. They ask the man on the phone who gives them the proper number, but the phone goes dead. The lines themselves are fine, but someone broke the box. Damn Dirty Sexy Nazi Ghosts! They are just the worst…..well, except during night hours.

With that everyone is locked in and Maria begins hyperventilating and panicking. Everyone starts irritating and turning against one another. Jean turns to drinking and sulking while Mark makes verbal attacks and then apologizes. Paul begins to think it’s deeper than just being in the same quarters. The negative energy is weighing on them all.

Back in his room drunk, Mark is visited by Willy. Like Anne the former night, Mark doesn’t know right away that he’s face-to-face with a ghost. He just sees himself as an intruder and Willy as an owner. Willy then shows Mark a beautiful naked woman (Zora Kerova) in the mirror and ready to play. Willy and Mark play a Russian Roulette card game mix to determine whether Mark gets sex with the gal or death. Mark wins and all he has to do is fine her. I’m sure this won’t end poorly. He’ll probably just get his rocks off and then everyone will go home happy!  Actually, it’s quite the opposite. He’s killed but slowly goes thru an odd semi-regeneration process.

Next, the ghost gal visits Maria. The sexy topless spirit in gorgeous black fishnets works her seduction magic and runs flowers down Maria’s body. She tells Maria that Anne and Celine are making love. She shows her footage in the mirror of the two together. It’s an illusion, but Maria gets bloodlust in her heart and jealousy running thru her veins. She only snaps out of it when she sees both girls fully clothed on the couch.

Meanwhile, Anne seemingly sneaks into Paul’s room for a quick romp. It’s not really Anne, of course. It’s more dead Nazi fuckery.

The film concludes with the survivors huddled together watching Willy’s OG tape. The ending is formulaic, but works well in context.

This is a weird and screwed up flick, but it’s just campy and over-the-top sexy fun. It’s a 1980s treasure that is equal parts gore and sex.

This baby is currently free on YOUTUBE so get it before the Piracy Police do, though this is certainly worth the purchase.
